5 days off in a row. After two months of long shifts, six-day weeks, and the rest of retail December reality, I was given this time to recharge.
I didn’t plan anything special, but now that it is upon me I have decided to be a tourist in my hometown. Each day I’ve resolved to do something I would do if I was visiting on vacation.
On the first day, I did Flyover Canada. Let me tell you, this was intense. http://www.flyovercanada.com/
It happened to be the premiere of the Fly Over China production, so both rides were offered for one price (approx $20CAD).
The fact they called it a ‘ride’ instead of a presentation should have been my first clue. The pre-flight safety meeting erased all doubt, this was no basic 3d movie…
Through the use of mist, scents and a moving seat you are lap belted into, the sensation of flight is achieved. There were views of the Great Wall of China and amazing Chinese plateaus I would have no way of seeing or experiencing. The Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) was an incredible close to the Canada flight.
Tourist appeal: 5/5
Fun for locals?: 5/5
Kids?: Yes (looked like 5-6 year old were tall enough to ride)
Day 2: I used an email offer for a week of “free” tanning, figured it would be nice to come back to work from my staycation with a tan. Sticker shock moment when I found out the bottle of lotion I selected, (required for use with free tanning offer) was $70! Still, I figure I’ll be hitting them up for every single day, so I’ll consider this the equivalent of my “resort fee” at $10/day if I was in Vegas instead. Rounded out day with Lunch at White Spot, renowned local burger chain, and hot tub/sauna at the local pool.
Tourist appeal: 1/5
Fun for locals: 3/5
Thinking a Seahawks football party for tomorrow, and two more days left to plan… Yay, staycation!
